Kick off your Memorial Day weekend! Join University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist as we explore the flora, fauna and fungi of the Mississippi Palisades State Park. The program will start at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center, where our three presenters will talk about the flora, fauna and fungi native to the Mississippi Palisades State Park. The program will end with a walk of the Sentinel trail. this mile long trail through Sentinel Nature Preserve, leads upward through a north facing slope that begins with various ferns, interlaced with early spring blooms; meadow rue, bloodroot, wild ginger, Virginia bluebells and even the occasional yellow lady's slipper orchid. NOTE: The Sentinel trail is classified as moderately challenging and includes a series of slippery wooden steps. Walking the trail is optional, you may chose to attend the education at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center only. No reservations needed. Family friendly Event. Youth are welcome with an adult.
