The Twin Cities Homeless Shelter is a non-for-profit shelter of last resort to provide food and shelter to the most vulnerable in the Sterling / Rock Falls area. The facility has grown to near capacity in recent years and needs strong leadership to ensure the shelter can serve this community for decades to come.

About the Position: The shelter administrative director will provide the overall coordination of all homeless shelter activities. This position is a full-time salary position with paid time off (3 weeks per year) and potential to earn a bonus based on fund raising success. The position reports to the board of directors of the shelter and has 2 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • All fundraising activities, including grant submission, solicitation of private donations and coordinating fund raising events to support the shelters’ financial needs including building an endowment
  • Manage the budget of the shelter by ensuring efficient operation and coordinating all funds going in an out with the Board treasurer.
  • Recruit and train staff as needed, managing the current shelter staff including the Client Advocate and night supervisor(s)
  • Solicit, train and manage the schedule for volunteers to help at the shelter and for meal donations. 
  • Work with area churches and communicate the needs of the shelter
  • Report monthly to the board on all updates from the previous month.
  • Advocate for the mission of the shelter working with press, agencies and social media to share our successes and purpose
  • Deliver shelter services with safety, respect and effectiveness while strictly adhering to facility policies regarding non-discrimination and confidentiality
  • Enforce all facility rules to keep our guests safe and the shelter clean. Oversee rule infractions by clients and any resulting disciplinary action and report back to the board for any permanent action needed.
  • Work with local, regional, state agencies, and organizations to advocate for the shelter, network, and learn issues that could affect the shelter.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in social services including grant writing, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills
  • Knowledge of public relations and social media engagement
  • Management experience including ability to make and manage budgets
  • Friendly and personable demeanor with a passion for helping others
  • BA in social service preferred
